Why It’s Important to Remove Mold – What to Know

Mold easily grows in really dark and damp corners. Having them around puts health safety at risk. Since mold is a fungus, it creates spores to reproduce. Inhaling high concentrations of these spores can be harmful to someone, which is why mold removal is important. Below are all the things you should know for you to better understand how mold can be dangerous to humans and the importance of removing molds.

Mold growth

Mold can grow both inside the house or outside. Mold loves shaded areas because ultraviolet hinders the growth of the fungus, rendering them unable to reproduce in areas often lit by the sun.

While it’s less worrisome for your home’s exterior aesthetics, it is problematic inside your house. Since sunlight does not directly hit your home’s interior, mold growth can be rampant, especially in places such as the bathroom, cupboards, wardrobes, and more. Basically, where there is moisture, mold can grow. Ceilings, floors, carpets, and unused clothes are often victims of mold growth.

Molds do not exclusively thrive in cold temperatures alone. They can still grow in warm environments. In both cases, mold can begin growth and reproduction in less than 48 hours where moisture is excessive.

How is mold bad for humans?

As mentioned above, molds create spores to reproduce and scatter their biological footprint to create new colonies. They do this by releasing spores into the air.

Spores are tiny, and they can be inhaled by humans, even pets. When the spores get inside the lungs of someone deep enough, it can cause respiratory problems like asthma.

Mold also creates allergens. Obviously, when a person inhales these, especially one who’s sensitive to the allergens, it will trigger an allergic reaction. For these reasons, mold can be hazardous to people’s health.

Are all types of mold bad for people?

The truth is that not all types of mold are bad for human beings. There are those that don’t really affect people at all. Nevertheless, there are many different types of mold and the naked eye cannot differentiate which of them are harmless just by looking at them. Because of this, removing mold as soon as possible from your home or workplace is a wise decision. Better be safe than sorry later on.

Preventing Mold Growth

If you want to keep mold out of your precious home, the best way to do that is by:

  • Controlling moisture

  • Fixing leaks

  • Limiting condensation and keeping a desirable room temperature—not too warm, not too cold

  • Regularly cleaning wet or damp areas
